I read the following Article in USA Today Section B Money, Tues., June 29, 2010 that expresses a warning about some programs found on the Internet:
“Work at home opportunities were supposed to help Chester Mazzoni, Susan Reid, and Terry Yeast make ends meet.”
“The only one who made money was Mazzoni – and that stopped when a court-appointed receiver shut him down. He used a work-at-home medical billing scam, EDI Healthclaims Network, to help fund his other businesses by persuading thousands of people to pay up to $6,000 for training and materials tostart allegedly lucrative business.”
“Consumers got neither the clients nor the money they wre promised, the FTC says. Last month, Mazzoni pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio to criminal charges of conspiracy to commit mail fraud related the work scheme. He faces up to five years in prison when he is sentenced in August.”
While there are some scams on the Internet, perhaps, too many, there are many business opportunities which genuinely help people to become a big success. But the scams... They frequently target the down and outers, luring in those who are struggling through difficult economic times. They wish to to improve their circumstances, but fall victim to unscrupulous dealers. Many people would like to make money, appear cash strapped, and they are desparate for help.
“Reid, who can't work outside the home because she cares for her terminally ill father, paid $1.95 to learn how to make money online. Then she was charged another $49.95 but never received anything for the money. Reid is one of more than a dozen people scammed y a company that goes by the names Search Profit System and Money Mastery, the Better Business Bureau says.”
Or can you?
During economic downturns business startups, and in this case, online ones give people the opportunity to work locally, i.e. at home, better themselves financially, and become real success stories. But Watch Out For the Scams! The truth is that the Internet is in an explosive growth mode that those with better skills can take advantage of... But you have to acquire the right skills – simple Systems that actually work for you. Of course, if you don't, you will fail because you chose the wrong business, did not exercise due diligence, or find a work-at-home business that you could actually do yourself successfully. In other words, if you wish to be a success online, and have the desire to reach financial goals you set, and the will to take action in positive ways... There are some important skill sets you need to know.
That is called :
Many fail; but a few become a Big Success. Why? Because those few know it, and apply it well while others fail, lose money, and waste valuable time.
Many people experience hardship or failure, they lose their momentum as they reflect on a series of setbacks which they don't seem to overcome. They don't have a chance to build their own business because they are dispirited, unsuccessful, or just plain unwilling to take a chance. The road to success is littered with failures.
If you wish to be successful, unlike with these scams, you must target markets of high quality clients. And tell the truth! But, more importantly, a business must offer great value. A lot of people need expert help from reliable companies with great products! There are tremendous opportunities out there for people to lift themselves up by their bootstraps!
Typically people fail because of they do not see several pitfalls:
What happened to these two who were initially charged $1.95?
“Reid and her husband, Brian, a disabled veteran who has been unemployed since 1999, researched Search Profit System only after their debit card had been charged an additional $49.95,”
“We figured this may not be so bad, and if we lose anything, it's only going to be $1.95, says Brian Reid.”
…
“On the company's website, which uses both the Search Profit System and Money Mastery logo, Reid noticed in very small print that those who don't cancel their subscriptions within the next 24 hours would be charged $49.95. Reid says it took several calls to get his refund a month later, so he filed a complaint with the BBB.”
Recently, it took me, the author of this business article, all day long to get back an overcharge from one of those deceptive companies. That is especially difficult when they contract their business out to offshore payment processors! So, yes, indeed, Watch Out! That is how they operate. They overcharge those who are the most vulnerable and unable to defend themselves.
The frauds do not return calls, give reliable addresses, or process refunds typically. They immediately overcharge accounts and practically vanish.
Susan Reid:
“I said, 'Wait a minute, you're giving in more than you're actually making.' … 'Why should I have to give you money to make money?'”
The FTC says that one of the biggest red flags is when they overcharge you and try to bill you for 'upfront payment'. It is like the author of this article has said in other issues of the CCN Business Newsletter on 'Pitfalls', 'They bill you upfront, then later. That is called the 'before and after' billing. Before you even notice that you are not making any money, and you probably never will because it costs too much, they are charging you with 'before and after' billing by making incessant demands and even threats to report you to the credit bureau. So, why do people fall for these expensive programs that do not work for YOU? They do not know or apply The Secret To Success.
What is funny is that there are even programs supposedly rated by the Better Business Bureau and they do that, too. That is, they do what the frauds do, just better. No matter what, there are three things you need to 'Watch Out' for:
Avoid overcharges
Big upfront payments
Don't use savings
Many people have lost savings because they did not get a return on their investments, but instead lost money and wasted their valuable time, when they could have been making money easily with the right business.
One lady who lost her savings discovered the business had been in operation since 1986! So, don't let appearances fool you. Get results. These businesses do not give you any real idea of what you can actually make, and you need to know that before you even get started in business!
Typical Scams:
Medical Billing
Crafts & Toys
Unwarranted Claims (You can make money without doing anything.)
Stuffing envelopes
Charging for marketing material & supplies
Rebate processors
Online search (Google Ads)
Forward Shipping
Hosting 'Money Maker Business Opportunity To Make Profit'
The key thing to note is that these businesses have No Market!!! They only give the perception of a market, and offer nothing of real value. That is unless you want to consider a state lottery a market of some kind!
So, the first questions you might ask yourself: IS THERE A MARKET? When there is a market, you have the opportunity to make real money on the Internet. So, if you don't know what you are actually selling, that should send up some red flags. It is not likely you are going to win the lottery!
